Paulo Gustavo was the Brazilian comedian and actor behind Dona Hermínia, the hilariously overbearing mom he played in the Minha Mãe é uma Peça franchise, one of the biggest comedy hits in Brazilian film history. He turned that stage character into three blockbuster movies and a TV series, all while being completely unafraid to be loud, silly, and deeply human on screen. Off stage he was openly gay and talked openly about his relationship and family life, which made him feel genuinely close to his fans. He passed away in May 2021 from COVID-19 complications, and the outpouring of grief in Brazil showed just how much he meant to people.
