How to Watch Old Instagram Stories After They Expire
Instagram stories disappear from a profile after 24 hours. The person who posted them can still see them in their own private Stories Archive, but nobody else can - unless the story was saved to a Highlight, or captured by an archive while it was live. What happens after 24 hours
A story is visible to your audience for exactly 24 hours from posting. After that it moves into the poster's own Stories Archive, which is private and visible only to them.
Viewers get nothing. There is no public record, no expired-stories page, and no way to ask Instagram for a copy of someone else's story.
Highlights are the one exception
If the creator adds a story to a Highlight, it stays on their profile indefinitely and anyone can watch it. Highlights are curated, though, so most stories never make it into one.
A Highlight can also be deleted at any time, which removes the story again.
